More Details...
/Good morning, it's great to see you!
As we all know...first impressions are invaluable. We all remember the old saying – you never get a second chance to make a first impression. What’s the first impression you’ll get when you walk into this home? Well, the very first thing that you will see once you step inside is the stairwell. The stairs are to the immediate right of the gorgeous front door. It was super important to me that the stairs be equally as gorgeous as the door. Jamie (Eagle Nest Custom Homes) and I did a lot of research on iron handrails and staircase banisters. There are so many opportunities to truly make a detailed statement.
Jamie and I work very closely with a local iron works company in order to customize and monitor each of our creations. We love being totally involved!
One unique feature that I love is when the spindle attaches to the under side of the step on the stair. This is a photo that I used for inspiration when meeting with our ‘iron guy’.
Code requires us to have three spindles per step compared to the two used in the above pic. We decided to add some detail onto the center spindle to truly customize our design. This decorative piece is called a collar.
I took it one step further and added an artist’s touch by gold leafing the collar for additional detail...feels so French Quarter!!!
In the pictures below you can see what the collar looks like on the spindle. Remember, there will be three spindles per step and only the center spindle will have the collar. The other two spindles will be plain. Notice, in these pictures, how the spindles will be attached to the underside of the steps. I chose a very simple backplate design.
The iron works’ owner personally came to install the handrail. It looks like he pays as much attention to detail as Jamie and I do!
And here is a picture of the finished product!!!!! So unique and So detailed!
I can’t say enough about how important details are in truly customizing your home. Jamie and I are proof positive that details make the difference. You’re invited to come and see our details in person on April 14th & 15th, as well as 21st & 22nd at the AHBA Parade of Homes! Hope to see y'all there!!
See ya next Monday for more talk on this home!
